Councillors in Tenby met with Pembrokeshire County Council’s head of environment this week to try and find a solution to ‘eyesore’ food waste bins being removed from alongside the town’s historic walls.
Recently Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas invited Tenby’s ‘liaison link officer’ Richard Brown, who is also PCC’s head of environment and civil contingencies to sit with her on the South Parade so he too caould experience the ‘smell and grease’ emanating from the controversial blue food bins that have been placed in the vicinity by some businesses.
Clr. Mrs. Thomas told Mr. Brown who was present at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council that she had received more complaints about the bins, whoch were being emptied once a week on a Monday, in the two weeks since she last raised the issue.
“The main issues are the smells and the grease and dirt that get on the benches and the walkways,” she said.
“My other fear is that now one or two businesses are doing it, others may follow.
“These are our historic town walls, not just any walls, and a very special place, and we are hoping that a solution can be found,” added Clr. Mrs. Thomas.
Mr. Brown said that the trade and waste team were liaising with the businesses about the key concerns.
“There is a significant problem with one premises due to the fact that they simply don’t have on site storage, but we are trying to work with them. It’s a slightly complex issue but it will be resolved asap, as we don’t want it continuing for the rest of the summer,” he explained.
