A Tenby shop stalwart who has worked for the town’s Morris Brothers business for nearly 50 years has bid a farewell to the retail trade after serving his final customer last week.

Alex Gourlay who is the manager of Morris Brothers’ Troy House branch located on St. Julian Street, retired last Friday (October 23) after 49 years with the company.

“Alex started working with the company in Tenby in July of 1971, when he was 16 years old, and worked in all departments, before rising through the ranks to become store manager at Troy House 30 years ago.

“Alex retired last week after working for three generations of our family, including my grandfather Frank Lewis, father Howard Lewis and myself,” said Katherine John director of Morris Brothers.

“He will be greatly missed by us all and we hope he has a long and happy retirement!” she added.
