Sir,

It saddened me this morning to hear that some mindless individuals had spread oil or a similar substance, on roads in Summerhill, Wisemans Bridge and Coppet Hall during the Ironman event.

I can think of no good reason why anyone in their right mind would want to do this and I am sorry, but they are no better than the terrorists we all fear.

Be it on their conscience should serious injury be caused to competitors, or simply bringing to an end someone’s race that so much hard work and preparation has been put into.

If it’s not your bag, there are safer ways to channel your feelings.

This is a fun event - shame on you!
