Sir, Re. Tenby Round Table Senior Citizens’ Christmas Dinner on Wednesday, December 6, at the De Valence.
We wish to say a big thank you, via the Tenby Observer letters page, to members of Tenby Round Table for working so hard all year to raise money for this fabulous night out, where no less than 180 guests were wined, dined, generally entertained.
To slightly misquote from Winston Churchill’s famous WW2 speech, ‘Never before have so few done so much for so many’ - for just seven Round Table members extended this largesse to all those senior citizens who wished or were able to attend on Wednesday evening.
They chauffered us from our door to the bright lights of Upper Frog Street and displayed a very liberal hand when re-filling our wine glasses from the many bottles circulating. The raffle prizes at the end, which many of us won with our complimentary raffle tickets, were more profuse than ever before. And it was great to see these seven young men so smartly dressed in their black dinner suits, white shirts and ties.
Everything was done with such courtesy, good grace and humour, even when the De Valence’s fire alarm was set off early in the proceedings by steam escaping from the ovens!
Our thanks are also due to the Qube staff for preparing such a delicious three-course, traditional meal and serving it to us, to St. Mary’s Church Choir for the heart-warming carol singing, to the town clerk, Andrew Davies, for ensuring everything ran smoothly and lastly, but far from least, Tenby’s very own ‘Ole Mr Blue Eyes’, Mr. Laurie Dale, for his songs and fun.
Keith and Ruthie Nixon,
Islay Court,
Victoria Street,
Tenby.
