Pembroke Street Pastors had a visit on Monday from Samuel Kurtz, Member of the Senedd for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire, who wanted to hear more about their work.
Co-ordinator Lyn Edwards explained to him the history of Street Pastors in the UK and the commissioning of Pembroke Street Pastors in 2016.
Mr Kurtz commented: “It was great to meet with Lyn Edwards and members of the Pembroke Street Pastor volunteer team to learn more how they provide assistance and pastoral care to those who find themselves in need of help during Saturday nights out in Pembroke town centre.
“The Street Pastor team are a reassuring presence to many young people on a night out and always have a bottle of water, a packet of Haribo of even their famous flip flops on hand to give out when needed.
“It is a great organisation, led by dedicated people and is a great example of the local community looking out for one another.”
Mr. Kurtz finished by saying that he looked forward to joining Lyn and her team on one of their patrols in the coming months.
“The meeting with Samuel was excellent,” Said Lyn Edwards.
“I went through our training, equipment and gave him many examples of our work on the Streets. I was accompanied by two of our Prayer Pastors who explained their role. Samuel will join us in the New Year on one of our patrols as an observer.”
