Representatives from Saundersfoot Community Council came to Saundersfoot Beach to present their generous donation of £500 formally to Saundersfoot’s ‘Lonely Tree’ Preservation Society.

This amount of £500 will be donated annually on the precept to the society’s Tree Fund to help secure the future of Saundersfoot’s iconic ‘Lonely Tree’.

Chairman of the Council Mike Wainwright said, “Making a donation was an easy decision to make as we are all in support of the tree!”

This is not the first time the community council have swung behind the campaign to save Saundersfoot’s iconic tree that resides on Scar Rock and Saundersfoot Beach. Back in 2017 when an application to fell was made by Beach Court Management their objection as statutory consultees in that PCNPA planning application must have gone some way to help save it then.

After Beach Court Management Committee submitted a second application to have the tree felled earlier this year the community council once again rejected the application and on June 9 Clr. Martyn Williams BEM presented a strong case for saving the tree to the PCNPA Development Management Committee and promissed that the community would pull together to help preserve its ‘Lonely Tree’ for generations to come.

The community council also lent their support for saving the tree by approving the Tree Preservation Order and permission to work application at their September meeting. Nicky Mallen, Treasurer of Saundersfoot’s Lonely Tree Preservation Society said “We are indebted to our community council for their donation and their continued support which helps to endorse the crusade to Save Saundersfoot’s Lonely Tree and their actions add real gravitas to our campaign”.
