Last Thursday evening saw crowds gather for the second annual Saundersfoot Harbourside Christmas Carol Concert. Despite the adverse weather conditions preventing the use of the decking area, the Saundersfoot Sailing Club came to the rescue, allowing the singers to make use of their balcony.
The concert was opened and hosted by Mr. Bill Carne, who highlighted the presence of Charlie Shivers, the Saundersfoot New Year’s Say Swim mascot. Charlie had arrived in style in a BMW Mini Clubman, courtesy of Sytner of Slebech.
Bill went on to introduce the Quaynotes, who entertained those present with two set pieces, before inviting audience participation in the remainder of their programme of carols.
The next act was an hilarious interlude by the Butchers Quartet (actually a quintet this year) who had the audience in stitches with their alternative version of Jingle Bells.
Bill then introduced Alwen Hughes and Susan McKehon, who led the audience in three carols, before they were joined by the Wisemans Bridge Rowing Club Choir for a rendition of three popular Christmas hits.
Everyone was then invited to retire to the clubhouse bar, where the Grand Raffle was drawn by two apprentice elves, Carys Bolton and Louis Treadaway Williams, along with Bill Carne. Carys was so good at the job, she managed to draw her own ticket from the bucket, winning a meal voucher for The Salvage Bar in Saundersfoot.
The first prize of a Four Ball Golf Day at Celtic Manor was won by Mrs. Ann Wilks from the Pontypool area and National Express tickets were won by Kate Lewis and Rebecca James. The Swansea City tickets were won by James Caine, of Saundersfoot.
A full list of the 50 prize winners will be displayed in the establishments where tickets were sold and on the Facebook page of Susan McKehon.
The evening closed with a huge thank you to all those who had donated prizes, bought raffle tickets and supported the event, including Tesco, Aldi, Morrisons and Marks and Spencer ,who provided the refreshments.
Thanks must also go to Coop Kilgetty, Marks and Spencer, Withybush Hospital and Tesco stores in Saundersfoot, Tenby and Haverfordwest for allowing the sale of raffle tickets and bucket collections on their premises.
To date, the total raised for Bone Cancer Research Trust is in excess of £7,000, with a few more bucket collections to take place in local stores early in 2018.
