The Saundersfoot Connect Team have finally received their 2020 Pembrokeshire Volunteering Award (supported by South Hook LNG). Winning the ‘Community Support Group’ Award, which was due to be presented last year but was delayed due to ongoing COVID restrictions.

Saundersfoot Connect was established at the start of the pandemic to assist the community by signposting to local support and services. Four friends established a Facebook page and quickly realised what a powerful tool this social media platform had provided. Those requiring help were signposted to the local County Councillor who had co-ordinated a volunteer group of over 80 names. Information was provided to assist with shopping deliveries, prescription deliveries, dog walking, hot meal deliveries and current updates from the County Council and Welsh Government.

The ethos of the group from day one was – is it true, is it kind, is it useful. This hit a chord with the community both locally and with those people who visit the Village.

Phil Baker, who nominated the group, said “As the local County Councillor for Saundersfoot I fully support and wonder at the dedication that this team has provided. It has given the village an even bigger heart and a connection that has grown stronger...”

Phil Baker, presented the team with their award, alongside Nia George from PAVS (Pembrokeshire Association of Voluntary Services). Nia said, “It is such a pleasure to meet the team in person and to finally present them with their well deserved award.”
