Sir,

Since spending a fair period of time in Tenby, for the past eight years, albeit on a part-time basis, I have embraced all aspects of a quiet, but fulfilling town, which has moved on leaps and bounds in terms of restaurants, shopping facilities and general appearance. This is no doubt helped by the past six years of Ironman Wales contributing massively to the locality, with both direct and indirect financial and media awareness of the town.

It is always amusing to read your Letters page of the various rants from opponents of the Ironman event, but I feel the person who could not even offer his name to his grievance over noise and Haribo discarded wrappers in New Hedges was particularly sad.

The effort by three thousand competitors and the money raised for charity, plus the local benefits, makes this person look quite a sad curmudgeon. Perhaps he can supply earplugs to his acquaintances next year, to avoid such a terrible problem.

Jon Bolter,

Cardiff.
