On Saturday, Pembroke Town Councillor David Boswell, together with Mr. Simon McMullan (Pembroke Town Council employee) took matters into their own hands and began work to clear debris and rubbish from the Castle Pond in Pembroke.
Clr. Boswell had been so appalled by the amount of rubbish, including several bikes, a metal pole, traffic cones and barriers, which had fallen or been thrown into the Castle Pond that he decided to take action.
With the generous support of Mr. Gwyn Goforth, of Svitzer Marine Ltd., who had kindly provided a 4x4 vehicle and equipment free of charge to Clr. Boswell, much of the debris was removed.
Pembrokeshire County Council area maintenance team were also supportive in this effort and arranged for the rubbish to be dumped once removed.
Clr. Boswell said: "People should be more aware of the pollution and the danger of debris thrown into rivers and waterways. I felt compelled to take action to try to make the Castle Pond a safer and more attractive area for the people of Pembroke and for visitors to the area."
