One of the charitable hosts of Tenby’s Summer Spectacular fundraisers, has confirmed that the event will definitely not take place this year.

The Tenby Round Table charitable organisation revealed back in May that the chances of the popular Summer Spectacular events taking place this year were slim due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic; and in a statement this week have confirmed the cancellation. They went onto state that they are hopeful that another fundraising event can be arranged some time in 2020.

Normally taking place on Sundays from the end of July and throughout August the events - popular on the seaside resort’s holiday season calendar attract thousands of visitors and raise a wealth of funds for charities.

Sharing the hosting duties both Tenby Round Table and Tenby Rotary Club host two of the dates each at the beautiful setting of the harbour, with Tenby and District Lions staging a popular paella festival on the last bank holiday of the summer.

“We have been closely watching the updates and guidance issued by the Welsh Assembly Government on measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19 - we feel it is time to confirm that we will definitely not be hosting our usual Summer Spectaculars in Tenby Harbour this summer,” said a spokesperson for Tenby Round Table.

“We do not feel it is safe to bring the thousands of people our event attracts into the centre of our community at this moment in time.

“We are looking at all the options for hosting this event (or a similar one) at later points in the year. We are also hopeful that we will still be able to host the Tenby Beer Festival this year to help us raise funds for charity.

“But, we do have a request to everyone who normally attends these events and allows us to raise so much money for local causes and charities. We normally ask for £1 to come down to the harbour and enjoy the bands, attractions and food and drinks we have on offer.

“This year, if you are able, we would be hugely grateful if you would donate a few pounds via our Paypal to help us continue our charity work. Now, more than ever, these charities need your support,” they added.
