At the end of June in the Narberth Primary School, headteacher Nia Ward kindly hosted in the assembly hall the final session of group working between her young RotaKids and the elderly LMG members.
In a previous meeting, the children had helped those persons living with dementia to create figures in clay which then had to be stored to dry out.
In the final session of the summer term, out came the paints and brushes for the budding artists to enhance their work in colour. Liberal doses of paint were either daubed or meticulously applied for quite dramatic effects.
After a tea and biscuits interlude, ably served by children aged 10-11, a final coat of varnish was applied to bring a glorious sheen to the artwork which was then taken home by their respective creators as a memento of their afternoon’s happy reunion with the pupils.
The next session of the LMG will be at Narberth Rugby Football Clubhouse on Thursday, July 4, starting at 1.30 and finishing at 3.30 pm. Past Rotarian Donna Jones, of the Haverfordwest Creative Café, will be there for some stimulating activity for those clients living with dementia. Carers and friends or family are welcome to join in for this free entertainment. There is no need to book, just come along. All are welcome and refreshments will be free.
The voluntary work of the Narberth and Whitland Club is funded by various charitable events, the next one being That’ll Be The Day at Folly Farm on July 5 and 6. Paul Sartori will be the major beneficiary, as well as the Rotary projects such as the LMG and RotaKids. Tickets are available from the Box Office. Call 01437 763 223 or 07767 408 336.
