Shane Williams MBE started, and took part in, the 25th anniversary RNLI walk and run on Castlemartin Army Training Range on Sunday last. Well over £3,000 was raised on the day.
The event is possible courtesy of the British Army, whose officers at Castlemartin plan the course across the range.
The range was a training ground on Sunday for Shane and colleagues, all Ironman Wales 2016 competitors, former Welsh international rugby player Ian Gough, Clr. Mark Edwards, of Haverfordwest, and David Jones, of Princes Gate Water.
The day was unbelievable and, in spite of the wettest weather in recent years, the attendance was one of the best. Keith and Sandra, our DJs, played on through the rain, encouraging 144 supporters to register for the walk, some with their dogs. A total of 42 athletes ran the course. Jack Richards, of the Angle tractor team, stood his tractor at the start line, ready for Shane to send everyone on their way.
The determination of our guests and supporters to be out on Castlemartin Range in the mist and rain, raising money for the RNLI, had to be seen to be believed, all the while looking forward to that hot drink and a bacon roll from the barbecue on their return. The barbecue team, Kath, Rachael, Philip and Audrey produced the most amazing food under the wettest gazebo ever, all day; an amazing ‘crew’.
The novelty dog show, was a huge success again this year, sponsored and judged by Billa Schleicher, of All Pets Vetcare, Milford Haven. Billa, assisted by Guild member Ira Ramsden and Sophie Ramsden, looked after 47 entrants.
First prizes went to Haley Gibson with Bea, Scott with Bobbie, Phil Giles with Jack, Jacqui Wingfield with Tonic, Sarah Codd with Simba and Julia Sturgess with Murphy.
The dog show prizes were again sponsored by John Burns, of Burns Pet Natural Nutrition for Dogs, of Kidwelly. Princes Gate Water, Valero, Powells Holidays and Pembroke Power Station also sponsored the event this year, our thanks to you all.
Supporting our fundraising is priceless and enables the RNLI to maintain a free 24/7 coastal, inland waterway, flood rescue service and seasonal lifeguard service in the UK and the Republic of Ireland.
A great day with a superb crowd of people, thank you. We shall announce how much you have raised for the charity as soon as possible.
