Local councillors want answers on whether the county council intend to run a ‘park and ride’ scheme for the town next summer, as they feel that a reduced service this year has had a detrimental effect on the resort.

The topic was raised at Wednesday night’s meeting of Tenby town council after correspondence came from the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, who informed councillors that a gentleman had called into the premises to leave feedback in relation to this year’s scheme, expressing disappointment that there was no park and ride provision to the harbour area and as a consequence he was not able to convey his disabled mother to Castle Square.

The town clerk and assistant clerk told councillors that they’d also received a lot of feedback from people disappointed that the park and ride service had been reduced, with some suggesting that it was discrimination against people in wheelchairs.

“I total agreed with these views, as the park and ride was a way for people to visit the harbour area, and that has been taken away from them,” commented Clr. Mrs. Tish Rossiter.

“PCC have got to find the funding from somewhere as it’s such an important asset for the town,” she added, with Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown agreeing.

“We need to write to PCC and explain the disappointment it’s caused and ask whether they intend to run the service fully again next year, as it’s even going to mess up events like Ironman, which is Pembrokeshire’s baby,” she said.

“We need to ask the question now to start the ball rolling,” added Clr. Mrs. Brown.

The town clerk, Mr. Andrew Davies told members that it was only through a generous contribution from the management of Kiln Park and funding from the town council itself, that the Salterns park and ride service was able to run this year.

Councillors agreed that a letter be sent to the county council asking them to explain their intentions for the scheme next year.
