Although only two local primary schools participated in this year’s competition, organised by Tenby Rotary Club, there was an impressive number of entries. There were some inspiring and original entries on the set topic ‘Reflections’.

The young entrants, representing Years 5 and 6, were pupils either at Tenby Church in Wales VC Primary School or St. Teilo’s School. They responded by crafting some innovative prose pieces, as well as some very powerful poetry.

The judges, Mrs. Nicole Evans and Mrs. Lindsay Oeppen, had a difficult task, but finally chose Lola Gray from St. Teilo’s School to be the overall winner with her uplifting and skillfully illustrated poem. Lola was closely followed by Phoenix Collins and, in third place, Grace Adams. Meanwhile, first place at Tenby VC Primary School went to Lexi Brooks, with second place going to Kyle Dizon. In joint third place were Chloe Fry and Nancy James. However, there was much to commend throughout the entries.

President Tom Cullen, accompanied by fellow Rotarian Peter Oeppen, were delighted to be able to present the prizes to the winners, firstly in an assembly at St.Teilo’s School and then at Tenby VC Primary School.

Tenby Rotary Club would like to congratulate those pupils who participated in the Young Writers’ Competition. Special thanks are extended to Miss Sheridan Redford and Mrs. Angela Nicholls for all their support, both in enthusing their students and giving up so much of their time to help run this competition. Thanks of course also are extended to the two adjudicators. Tenby and District Rotary Club look forward to receiving more exciting entries next year.
