Hollywood musical La La Land (12A) will be shown as a first release at The Torch Theatre Cinema starting this Thursday (January 12).
The musical, has broken the record for winning the most Golden Globe Awards for the past year for a single film, by being awarded seven prizes. It won every award it was nominated for - including best musical or comedy film, best director, screenplay, score and song. Ryan Gosling was awarded Best Actor and Best Actress went to Emma Stone.
This musical, received widespread acclaim from critics and has grossed $85 million worldwide. It was chosen by the American Film Institute as one of the top ten films of 2016 and follows the entwined stories of Mia (Emma Stone), an aspiring actress who serves coffee between auditions, and Sebastian (Ryan Gosling), a jazz pianist confined to playing the hits in dingy bars.
A breathless, life-affirming romance begins between the two of them, and they’re happy for the first time in a long time. But as they finally find success, the dreams they’ve pursued for so long threaten to tear them apart.
Here’s to the fools who dream. From the director of ‘Whiplash’, ‘La La Land’ is a glorious Hollywood musical that received universal adoration on the festival circuit. The music and score were composed and orchestrated by Justin Hurwitz, who has also worked on two prior films.
The film will be showing from January 12 to January 26 at a cost of £6.40 full, concessions £5 and family £20.
