Sadly the public events planned for 2020 by Narberth and Whitland Rotary are under continuous review, and all Government advice on social distancing will be taken into consideration.

So, to maintain contact with the public, the Annual Duck Race and Pig Roast, Cresselly Arms, Cresswell Quay, will not be held at the venue due to the coronavirus, but the Rotarians are delighted to be able to promote the first ever Virtual Duck Race in aid of the Paul Sartori Hospice at Home and the Rotary Charity Fund. This will take place on Friday, July 31.

Participants take part by buying ducks at the Rotary website www.nwrotary.co.uk at just £1 each. Supporters can buy as many as they like! This fundraising event is in aid of the Paul Sartori Foundation and other charities and good causes supported by Narberth and Whitland Rotary.

Because of the coronavirus pandemic, Paul Sartori has seen a dramatic reduction in their funds whilst the need for their services continues to grow. So this fundraiser will help in providing support to the At Home Hospice Service.

In the virtual duck race, the owner of the winning duck number will be receive £50, the second place duck number will receive £25 and the third place £10.

A special computer programme is being written for the event which is sure to be just as exciting as the real thing. All ducks purchased will be given a number and all will be entered into the ‘Virtual Duck Race’. Join in this worthy cause - ‘It’s a quacking idea’.

Rotarian John Sleigh also recently announced: “You’ll not be surprised to read that the Narberth and Whitland Rotary are unable to sponsor their annual Sounds Fantastic concert at Rhos-y-Gilwen due to the lockdown measures that are still likely to be in place on June 28 this year.”

Sounds Fantastic is a not a competition. It was launched several years ago to provide an opportunity for talented young musicians to perform for a paying audience to gain experience on a public stage. president Elaine Bradbury said; “This year’s concert will be different !”

With the help of Clive Raymond, of West Wales Music, Narberth and Whitland Rotary members are preparing to run a ‘virtual’ version of the concert by asking performers to pre-record their pieces.

John Sleigh, the organiser, confirmed that a video compilation will then be produced which will be available, free of charge, for viewing online via this website from June 28 onwards.
