Over 150 Year 7 school pupils from Pembroke Secondary School will take part in a 'Tour de Pembroke' cycle ride next week on Tuesday, July 10, at 1.20 pm.

The pupils from Pembroke School will complete a two-mile cycle circuit of the town.

The aim of the cycle ride is to promote cycling to school.

"It's all about encouraging youngsters to get on their bikes and think about alternatives to the car," said Paul Smith, Pembrokeshire County Council's walking and cycling officer.

"It also aims to get residents and visitors used to seeing youngsters out on bikes and allow them the space to get around."

The Tour de Pembroke bike ride has been organised by Wyndham Williams, Sport Pembrokeshire 5x60 officer at Pembroke School, and Gareth Thomas, head of Year 7.

As well as riders, there will be marshals on duty, including school staff, parents and the local police, who will manage the ride and control the traffic.
