A packed public meeting on the Angle peninsular heard about the Government's death knell for new windfarms from local MP Simon Hart last Thursday night. The 'pub politics' session at the Speculation Inn in Hundleton was the latest in a series of meetings which sees Mr. Hart invite residents to their local pub to discuss local and national issues. There is considerable opposition to plans for wind turbines at nearby Rhoscrowther and 65 residents packed the meeting. "I have been doing these meetings for a year now and this is the largest turnout we have had which shows the strength of feeling," said Mr. Hart. He was able to relay the announcement that a Conservative Government after the 2015 election would end public subsidies for new onshore wind projects - effectively putting a stop to future developments. These changes would be delivered within six months of the next election. Mr. Hart said: "This makes the position crystal clear for local people who are worried about the number of wind turbines being erected simply to harvest subsidies rather than support local jobs. "Whether this will come in time to prevent the Rhoscrowther project depends on the planning process, but it's a significant step for many communities in our area."
