Cyclists who took part in the recent Carten charity ride from Cardiff to Tenby have been praised by local councillors.

The 12th annual Carten100 took place on May 6, with 2,500 riders peddalling the 108-mile route, finishing up in Tenby’s Tudor Square.

At Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, the Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane, who greeted the riders into Tenby with the former Mayor, Clr. Laurence Blackhall, praised and congratulated those who took part for their efforts.

“The money raised from this event goes to charity organisations which is good to see, so I’d like to write a letter of commendation to the Carten organisers. I’d also like to thank Pembrokeshire County Council’s senior traffic engineer, Ben Blake, for the authority’s co-operation in ensuring that the digital display sign into Tenby, made visitors feel welcome on the day,” she commented.

Clr. Blackhall said that the Tenby in Bloom display at the ‘welcome’ sign was also a nice touch, and that the feedback he had received suggested that riders really appreciated the fact that the Mayor and Deputy Mayor were on hand to applaud the riders into the town, and how ‘delighted’ they were to be back in Tenby once again.

“It’s also good to see Clr. Tony Brown walking slightly more comfortably now than he did after taking part in the Carten!” he laughed.

The Carten100 riders have helped to raise hundreds of thousands of pounds over the years, but this year is set to be the biggest yet, with the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) nominated as 2017’s chosen charity.
