Warm-ups have taken on a new meaning at a local karate club after Pembroke Power Station stepped in to help pay for a heating system.

Pembroke Dock Karate Club had no heating at its clubhouse and winter training evenings were proving to be a challenge.

"We always have a warm-up session before we start training, but it was so cold we couldn't feel our feet and hands; it was impossible to get warmed up,' said club founder, Graham Thomas.

With donations from RWE npower and other local businesses, the club has now installed a heating system to make club nights more comfortable.

"It has made a huge difference, we have noticed that we are getting more regular attendance on winter evenings now that the building is warmer,' said Mr. Thomas.

The £500 RWE npower donation also helped pay for new kit for the juniors and seniors.

Mair Lewis, community liaison officer at Pembroke Power Station, said the company was delighted to be in a position to help.

"The club has a thriving junior and senior membership, therefore a lot of people will benefit from this donation,' she said.
