Funding from Milford Haven Port has afforded two Pembrokeshire rowing groups a once in a lifetime opportunity to represent the county at the Queen's Jubilee River Pageant.

Pembrokeshire Gig Association and Glas-y-Dorlan Owners Group have been invited to join with around 1,000 vessels taking part in the seven-mile pageant on the Thames in London on Sunday; the biggest event of its kind in over 200 years!

Both groups were successful in securing support from Milford Haven Port's Community Fund.

Stella Hooper, the port's community liaison officer commented: "It's great that these 22 individuals of all ages and ability are representing Pembrokeshire at this magnificent historic event.  We wish them all every success."

Pembrokeshire Gig Association is a registered charity open to people of all ages to experience traditional seamanship.

Their vessel 'Cwch John Kerr' is a beautiful 18th century 38-foot replica longboat.

Gig oarsman, Tim Arthur thanked MHPA for their support and added: "Whilst our crew are thrilled to be participating, it would not have been possible without the hard work of our maintenance and shore-support team.'

Glas-y-Dorlan Owners Group are proud owners of 'Glas-y-Dorlan' (Kingfisher), an historic 26-foot traditional Pembrokeshire longboat built over 40 years ago.

Speaking of the group's excitement leading up to the pageant, Frank Shortt, one of the original owners of Glas-y-Dorlan, said: "We are lucky to have this opportunity to take part in such a historic event."

Applications to Milford Haven Port's community support programme are open to charities, voluntary and community organisations and social enterprises that are working within Pembrokeshire.  For more information, visit http://www.mhpa.co.uk">www.mhpa.co.uk.
