Narberth’s deputy mayor Clr. Sue Rees says she is “sick and tired” of people telling her that there is nothing they can do about the issue regarding Back Lane.
Clr. Rees has consistently raised the issue since September 2019 and has now urged Pembrokeshire County Council to do their job.
During her remarks at Tuesday’s town council meeting, Clr. Rees said that over the weekend Back Lane was still being blocked and that people couldn’t drive out of it.
She added that the wasteland is inviting people to dump stuff, there was rubbish everywhere, residents are now using it as a shortcut to get from one end of the town to the other and that there was dog mess “in glory.”
“I really do think that the county council need to address this issue”, continued Clr. Rees.
“They need to understand that (Back Lane) is a road, it is not a footpath.
“People have a right to drive their car down there.”
Clr. Rees said she wanted the Town Council to write a strongly worded letter to PCC to demand that they do something about it.
“The County Council are responsible for providing roadway, you try dumping anything on the footpath you’d get nicked for doing it”, remarked Clr. Rees.
Clr. Ruth Barnes suggested that PCC should remove the big bins on the entrance to the road.
Clr. Rees responded saying that she wanted PCC to do their job and that the bins shouldn’t be there.
Town Clerk Caroline Coaker said she would write a letter to the county council about the issue to which the council agreed.
