A plea has been issued for more volunteers to come to the surface to help keep Tenby Sea Cadets afloat.
Correspondence from the organisation’s development worker Craig Gilling came before members of the town council at their meeting on Tuesday night, stating that he was hoping to engage with the local community to raise the profile of volunteer opportunities available, to support units in terms of recruitment to avoid the threat of closure.
“You may be aware the Sea Cadets have been established in Tenby for many year and have offered great opportunities to youngsters in the community, however due to the lack of volunteers coming forward in recent years, the unit is now in a critical situation to recruit trustees and trainee instructors,” he wrote.
Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane told her colleagues that she commended the people and volunteers that had supported the Sea Cadets all these years, but that there was new blood needed as many volunteers at the organisation were now running it well over retirement.
“These people have been so committed over the years but sadly new volunteers don’t seem to be coming forward.
“There has got to be some ex-naval people out there who are happy to help, and it would be nice if someone came in.
“Let’s hope that if we push this plea, then some will come forward,” she added.
