Town councillors have asked for planned discussions to consider enhancing a Tenby play park not to be ‘dropped’ before they have even begun.
Proposals to look into the possibility of refurbishing the play area in Heywood Court were mooted recently by Clr. Mike Evans, who suggested that the town council should be looking into Capital Expense Play Programmes, and funding projects like this for areas of the town where there was need and support for.
Despite the suggestion splitting views in the town council chambers, with some feeling the cost for such a scheme would be too high, a site meeting between Clr. Evans and fellow Tenby county councillor Michael Williams had been planned.
However, when the subject was raised at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, members were told that the on-site discussions had yet to take place.
“Can we see if this meeting can be rearranged?” commented Clr. Mrs. Sue Lane.
“This needs to be ongoing and not something that should be dropped mid-air,” she added.
Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown, who was one councillor who had reservations about taking on such a project, agreed that the meeting needed to take place asap, as there had been a lot of feedback on the matter and lots of residents in that area were keen to be updated.
“We’ve had the petition from the residents who want to ensure that the play park is maintained, so I feel that our county councillors should be pursuing this matter or meeting with county council officers to ask what is going on,” said Clr. Mrs. Brown.
Meanwhile, Clr. Mrs. Caroline Thomas said that she supported a letter in the Tenby Observer last week regarding an ‘oldies play area’ with free gym-style machines similar to what Carmarthen park had.
“You see a lot of these facilities when you go abroad, with older people enjoying exercise in these park areas. If we found the right site in Tenby, it could be great news,” she told her colleagues.
Clr. Laurence Blackhall said that a similar suggestion had been proposed at a meeting of the town’s Regeneration Committee where equipment could be placed along the North Walk area.
“PCC felt that it wasn’t a proposal that they wished to take forward, but I’d be more than happy to take it back to the committee,” he said.
