Proposals to carry out work to a prominent seafront Georgian house overlooking Tenby’s Castle Beach which would also see consolidation works to the cliffs below have been praised by a local councillor.

Speaking at Tuesday night’s meeting of Tenby town council who had requested a site visit to consider a planning application put forward to the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority, by applicants Mr. and Mrs.?Griffiths, in respect of works at Lexden House, Lexden Terrace, St. Julian Street, Clr. Laurence Blackhall told his fellow members that the proposals were ‘fabulous’.

If approved the plans would see consolidation works to the cliffs below the main house, the entire demolition of a derelict workshop and the rebuilding of a new lower brick wall.

There would also be new additional iron steps and the replacement of one bay of conservatory glazing with a pair of French windows and one new window to vault.

“What’s proposed is fabulous and in keeping with the history of the building and the applicants and the architect involved should be applauded for the way they have gone about this very sensitive development,” said Clr. Blackhall.

“It will improve the view looking up from Castle Beach, and they are also looking at spending quite a bit of money on securing the cliff area.

“It’s a very encouraging proposal, and there is a real sense of respect on the building’s history and heritage from an old standing Tenby family bringing the premises back to where it was,” he added, with his fellow councillors agreeing to recommend approval for the application to PCNPA.
