A very different kind of nightlife will be heading to Penally with the conversion of a former club to a nursing home.

Pembrokeshire County Council’s planning committee agreed when they met on Monday that there was a “need” for such a facility and it would provide a “planning gain.”

The former DJs nightclub will be converted into a 31 bedroom nursing home with treatment rooms, dining room, sitting room, kitchen, reception, recreation area, laundry and pharmacy.

There will be minor alterations and improvements on the outside of the building and facilities developed over three floors inside.

A footpath linking the site and the village will also be provided via planning conditions to assist those walking to work.

Clr. Michael Williams said: “This building has been empty for many years and is becoming an eyesore, this is a welcome development.”

Councillors David Bryan, Brain Hall and David Pugh also highlighted the need for the development of such facilities and supported the application.

Clr. Pugh added he had recently faced difficulty finding a suitable place for a family member with waiting lists at many homes.

Its approval replaces a 2016 plan for 11 dwellings on the site.
