An update on ‘candidate sites’ included on a list by the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park Authority of land that could potentially be earmarked for future development in Tenby has led to local councillors calling for a review on the inclusion of one site.

Correspondence from PCNPA planning officer Sarah Hirst on the Local Development Plan (LDP) land allocations and larger development sites came before members of Tenby Town Council at their meeting on Tuesday night.

Clr. Laurence Blackhall told his colleagues that he was a bit ‘mystified’ as to why the Butts Field Car Park was included on the list.

“PCC as landowner has advised that the need to provide an alternative car park makes development of this site uneconomic at present and large uplifts in the market will be required to unlock the site for development,” wrote Ms Hirst.

“Despite this, they have resubmitted the site as a ‘candidate site’ for an unspecified mixed use. The site is currently being considered as part of the Local Development Plan revision process,” she added.

Responding to the matter, Clr. Blackhall told his colleagues: “I’m a bit mystified by the inclusion of the Butts Field site, I don’t think it should be a ‘candidate site’. The one problem we had previously with the LDP was the inclusion of sites that had no realistic prospect of being developed, to hit certain targets, therefore I don’t think it should be included,” he explained.
