A decision on further expansion of a caravan park near Tenby has been delayed while councillors go to see the site for themselves.
New Minerton Leisure Park’s application for the second phase of its expansion was recommended for refusal at planning committee on Tuesday (February 12.)
The plan for a change of use of a field for an additional 30 static caravan pitches and ecological enhancements was said to be an “encroachment into the surrounding countryside,” officers said.
It was also described as “visually intrusive and incompatible with the
rural character of the area.”
There is also a “prohibition” on the development of caravan parks in that area which has been overruled for other applications.
There was support from the local member for the proposal and Clr. Phil Kidney said it was also backed by the community.
“St Florence Community Council was vocal in their request for me to appear today and voice their approval for this scheme. We need as much development as we can get in our area,” he told the committee.
Clr. Kidney added the expansion would create jobs and support local businesses.
Questions were raised by Clr. Jacob Williams over the previous phase of development, which had been laid-out differently to a plan approved in 2015 and then return for retrospective changes before Christmas last year.
“I think when this committee is willing to go against policy the least we can expect is that it is implemented properly,” he said.
Clr. Tony Wilcox proposed a site visit to see how the caravans impact on the area and this was approved by the committee.
