Local portrait and commercial photographer Ross Grieve has been in the spotlight himself recently.
For Ross, of Cresselly, was chosen to be one of four photographers from around the world chosen to trial a brand new state-of-the-art Panasonic camera.
An ambassador for the company for the last two years, New Zealand-born Ross was chuffed to be able to showcase not only his work, but the county where he now lives to the world by appearing on their Lumix GH5 launch campaign.
“GH5 for me is a real turning point,” says Ross. “It’s a game changer. It’s allowed me to dab my toe into pet photography because of 4K and 6K photography. It opens up a huge box of imagination and it’s a massive difference you can’t get with a conventional camera.”
A multi-award-winning photographer, Ross continued: “Two years ago, I never thought I would be extracting files from a video format. That’s developed my photography in a different way and even though I’ve been shooting for over 20 years, I’m still learning.
“You can shoot a lot faster and capture those moments you normally may miss.
“The images coming out of the camera are mindblowing. The image quality and the colour representation is absolutely bang on.
“It’s going to make my photography business stronger and it’s also going to make the way I shoot a lot easier. In fact, it’s going to make the impossible, possible.”
The launch campaign featured Ross capturing various photographs using the new camera, including this one of South Beach, Tenby, with local jockey Charlotte Evans.
Added Ross: “I was absolutely over the moon to be asked to take part in the campaign. This also involved photographing images for Panasonic to use in promoting their new Lumix GH5 camera. I really wanted to use local people as we have so much talent in Pembrokeshire. Amrie Duckett did all the make up on the model shoots. Kezia modelled for the second time for me and was brilliant to work with. The puppy, Hugo, was used with kind permission from Leah Asparassa. The horse on the beach was ridden by Charlotte Evans. Folly Farm were so accommodating with me too. Every person apart from the film crew, who stayed at Cardeeth Farmhouse, was local.”
The coming months are extremely exciting for Ross.
He is speaking at the Photography Show at the NEC in March and also at The Business Photography Forum in Cologne in March.
Plus his workshops start on Monday with a beginners course.
“It’s been an amazing and exciting past few years and it keeps on getting better,” he concluded.
