The June meeting of Pennar and Bufferland Community Association was opened by chairman, Clr. Maureen Colgan, and among matters discussed were the following:
HM The Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebratory party: The wet weather failed to dampen Pennar residents' enthusiasm for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee celebrations, and for the party that was held in St. Patrick's Community Hall. The hall was very well decorated for the occasion, with Union Jack flags predominating. Lots of party foods and delicacies were provided by P&BCA members and residents. Despite the weather, the Jubilee party was a great success.
Pennar residents' long wait to see whether they really do have a green space for their recreational activities: Clr. Tony Wilcox reminded members that even though the planning inspector at the public inquiry had recommended that land at the western end of Military Road should be declared a town or village green, the council's head of legal services still required clarification on certain points before he could make a final decision.
Treasurer's report: Clr. Colgan stated that after issuing a cheque for £25.61 to cover the cost of bunting, flags, table cloths etc., for the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the P&BCA funds now have a credit balance of £243.16. She went on to say that the P&BCA would apply for a grant from the Community Chest to cover the cost of festivities to be arranged during the Olympics. She has asked Clr. Tony Wilcox to reserve St. Patrick's Community Hall and the grounds surrounding the church, for a children's Olympic party scheduled for Saturday, July 28.
Mrs. J. Hissey, wife of the late Clr. Ted Hissey: It was reported that Mrs. Hissey, wife of the late Clr. Ted Hissey, had recently passed away. Ted served on the committees of various sporting clubs and associations, including the bowling club, the Royal Engineers Association and the P&BCA. Clr. Colgan (treasurer) would send a bereavement card to the family on behalf of the members of the community association.
Refurbishing of children's play areas in the municipal parks of Pembroke Dock: Clr. Wilcox said that the council intended to improve the quality and stock of amusements in the children's play areas in both the Memorial Park and St. Patrick's Park in Pennar.
