There is strong local opposition to a Penally nightclub licence application due to be decided this week.
Fears of noise pollution, anti-social behaviour, alcohol fuelled issues have been highlighted by the community council and residents of an adjacent holiday park in response to the potential nightclub.
The manager of Crackwell Holiday Park, Emma Thomas, is among several people who have raise objections.
She referred to previous noise abatement orders issued when it was Chequers adding there were fears it would “disrupt the peace and tranquillity” of the holiday park.
On Thursday (August 22) Pembrokeshire County Council’s sub-licensing committee will decided if the ‘Queen of Clubs’ – to be opened at the former Chequers nightclub – be issued a licence.
The applicant Carmen Clemas of Pentrecagal, near Newcastle Emlyn, wants to serve alcohol 8 pm to 4 am Friday, Saturdays and Sundays.
Members of Penally Community Council have also raised concerns about the application at a recent meeting, expressing the view that there was strong evidence of historic problems when this site was previously used as a nightclub, with councillors recalling that the local police were involved in a number of alcohol related incidents from the former club at this location.
These problems also included alcohol related increase in noise levels. Members pointed to the fact that there is a family-run holiday caravan site on land abutting the application site which will potentially be affected by the possible increase in noise levels from persons leaving the venue and music being played.
Historically, and to the best of Councillors recollection, there were also alcohol related incidents on the local trains serving Penally train station regarding persons attending the then existing night club.
cDyfed-Powys Police licensing officer Nigel Lewis raised concerns about road safety at the venue and in a letter to the committee states that he wants a “multi-agency meeting” to be held if a licence is granted ti agree solutions.
Mid and West Wales Fire Service has visited the premises and made a list of improvements that must be made to comply with fire regulations.
Councillors will discuss the application at 10 am, at County Hall, Haverfordwest.
