PEMBROKESHIRE County Council has launched a consultation concerning the draft Welsh Language Strategy for the next five years.
The County Council is required to produce and publish a five-year plan setting out how the Welsh language is promoted in Pembrokeshire, as part of the national Welsh Language Standards.
The Draft Welsh Language Strategy 2026-31 includes objectives, a target and an action plan that the authority will implement to help it achieve its objectives.
Residents can also view an Integrated Impact Assessment which includes the Council’s assessment of the impact the Strategy will have on the Welsh language and other issues; this information will help you to answer questions about the Draft Strategy.
You can give your views by completing the Council’s Have Your Say web page: www.pembrokeshire.gov.uk/have-your-say/draft-welsh-language-strategy-2026-31
Cabinet Member for Education and the Welsh Language, Cllr Guy Woodham said: “This Welsh Language Strategy focuses on developing the use and visibility of the Welsh Language across the County and is supported by our Welsh in education strategy.
“Please take the chance to have your say on how we support the Welsh language over the next five years.”
Anyone who would prefer to read a paper copy is invited to call Pembrokeshire County Council’s Customer Contact Centre on 01437 764551 or email [email protected] so arrangements can be made to send this to you.
The information gathered during the consultation will be used to help Members in deciding what the final Welsh Language Strategy 2026-31 will be. Cabinet will consider these at its meeting in July 2026, then a final decision is expected to be made by Council at its meeting in July 2026.
Note that the closing date for completed responses is March 22, 2026, by 5pm.
