A report on England schools and the increasing amount of sexual harassment and online sexual abuse has been raised by a Pembrokeshire councillor wanting more information on the situation here.
Clr. Viv Stoddart raised the Ofsted inspector review which found that sexual harassment has become “normalised” for young people, particularly girls, not only at school but online and other unsupervised places, at schools and learning overview and scrutiny committee on Thursday, June 10.
Committee chairman Clr. John Davies said that Estyn, Wales’ school inspectorate body, was strengthening safeguarding aspects of inspections, which are due to restart in September.
He added that the Ofsted report and how Estyn is progressing its review and approach to the issue in Wales will be considered by the scrutiny committee as part of its annual safeguarding report discussions to “provide a clear view maybe as far as Pembrokeshire schools are concerned.”
Director of education Steven Richards-Downes added that the report, published on June 10, and its contents had been noted with discussions held with Estyn about the strengthening of safeguarding work through the inspection process.
