Welsh Government is providing bus companies with additional funding so that services carrying school pupils or experiencing capacity issues can ramp-up service levels from September 1 until the end of October.
The County Council has been liaising with bus operators in Pembrokeshire to identify the bus services that need to be changed.
Unfortunately, it has not been possible to return all services to pre-Covid-19 levels.
The Welsh Government’s advice of only using public transport for essential journeys has now been removed.
However, due to the social distancing rule there are still likely to be occasions when there are too many passengers to ensure that social distancing is adhered to. Customers are encourages to follow the safety instructions provided at bus stops and on the buses.
Please note, some bus services are still currently operating on a pre-book basis only to ensure there is sufficient room on the buses for social distancing.
The days the buses operate have been reduced because there is not enough revenue from fares to cover the costs of operating fully.
Since Monday, July 27, it has been mandatory for passengers to wear face coverings. This is to ensure their safety, the safety of other passengers and the drivers.
“I am pleased to announce that from Tuesday, September 1, the frequency of several bus services in Pembrokeshire will be increased to help accommodate the increased demand of services” said County Councillor Phil Baker, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Infrastructure, Licensing and Major Events.
“We ask that with the increased number of journeys, everyone works with us and follows the safety instructions which will ensure that everyone is kept safe while travelling.”
