Pembroke has been named the the ‘most desirable place’ to live in Wales according to a survey by a property website.

Nearly 24,000 people were seurveyed by website Rightmove to discover where they would most like to live in Britain, with the Pembrokeshire town, which is the birthplace of Henry VII, coming in sixth overall.

Tenby was voted the second most desirable Welsh location, coming in 16th overall, with the Isle of Skye in Scotland topping the list of desirable areas in Britain.

With the average asking price for a home at £169,969, Pembroke is the least expensive place to live on the list.

Welcoming the news, the Mayor of Pembroke, Clr. Dennis Evans, said that as well as the area being a ‘very nice and friendly place to live’ he pointed to the fact that the spotlight had centred on the town for recent films such as Me Before You, bringing Pembroke to a wider audience.

He also praised the work undertaken by Pembroke Castle Manager Jon Williams in helping to promote the town, with high profile events and concerts.
