Pembroke Rotary Club has donated £500 to purchase water purification 'straws'.

A purification straw is a piece of pipe containing filters which remove bacteria such as E.Coli, salmonella, saphylococcus, shigilla and enterococcus. You simply hang a water bag from a tent, tree or hut which is connected to the pipe. Gravity then feeds the water down through the straw which makes it safe to drink. The only power used is gravity.

Each kit costs £15 and is capable of purifying 18,000 litres of water. This is enough water for a family of four for three years!
