Pembroke Power Station Sports and Social Club is one of the town’s hidden secrets.

Boasting over 300 members, the club at 45-47 Main Street is open seven days a week.

Initially the sports and social club of Pembroke Power Station, the club became its own limited company on January 15, 1998, after the power station closed and links were severed.

The freehold of the premises was subsequently purchased on March 30, 2001, and it is now run successfully by the directors, committee and hardworking staff.

The club is open Monday-Friday from 4 pm and Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon.

A free house, it has a well-stocked bar featuring Stowford Press, Chocolate Stout, Worthington Creamflow, Carling, Guinness, Worthington Classic, Carlsberg Extra Cold, Celtic Gold, Strongbow and Felinfoel IPA, as well as wines and spirits. Teas, coffees and crisps and snacks are also available.

The club boasts a skittle alley which has 16 teams of six people playing most evenings in the winter/summer league, plus two pool teams, two snooker teams and two ladies darts teams.

BT Sport is installed, with three large screens which show all the popular sporting events.

There’s a busy programme of entertainment, with the next event being an appearance by Whole Lotta Shakin’, a Shakin Stevens tribute act, on Saturday December 9.

In addition, there’s also quiz and bingo nights on the last Sunday of every month (next one November 26), plus a weekly meat draw. There’s also the grand Christmas draw with £5,000 up for grabs!

Another feature of the club is the function room which can be hired to members for all occasions. There is a maximum of 40 guests and catering can either be done by those hiring the room themselves or can be arranged by the club. The room has views over Pembroke Commons and its own entrance and disabled toilet facilities.

It’s also an ideal room for local clubs, groups and organisations to hold their meetings.

A private members club with the following annual membership being: £20 member and partner and children under 18 years of age; £15 for over 65s and free if you are 80 or older! For those aged 18-25 in full-time education, it’s £5.

Members are welcome to invite guests to the club free of charge on a ‘signed in’ basis.

With an emphasis on being family orientated, the club has a special charity section and is proud to be able to support Pembrokeshire youngsters and youth groups with donations through fundraising.

The club has a small car park, plus area for sitting out during the summer season.
