What a lovely day we had on our club trip on Wednesday, July 16! The weather was drizzly, but this did not affect our spirits in any way - our intention was to enjoy ourselves. Vice-president Dawn Homfray's meticulous planning, as well as our friendly, helpful driver, ensured that the itinerary was followed without a hitch. The first stop was Hilton Court Gardens for morning coffee. It was a bit damp to walk in the gardens so members enjoyed excellent coffee in the cafeteria, as well as browsing the selection of interesting items in the gift shop. We then meandered along the scenic route to Porthgain where a friendly welcome greeted us when we stopped for lunch at the Sloop Inn. The staff coped well with the wide range of dishes selected from the menu and everyone agreed that the meals were delicious and good value. The sun came out for our final visit - the Tregwynt Woollen Mill. On the tour, the guide explained the processes of the wool being spun and woven into colourful, attractively designed fabrics. Some of the finished items were for sale in the gift shop. Members then enjoyed tea and cakes in the café before departing for the journey home. It really was a very pleasant, happy day out. The next club meeting is 'Natter and Noggin' on August 20, 11.30 am, usual venue.
