A strong crowd watched two fantastic games of rugby on Sunday morning as Pembroke entertained visitors Llangwm.

The Under 7s took to the pitch first and set about the opposition straightaway. There was some excellent handling skills from Ben, Christian, Ioan and Finley, who all helped to create space for others. The space was exploited well, with tries from Josh, Danny, Charlie, Will, Owen, George and with a pair for Rhydian, including the try of the day, a break from his own line and a length of the pitch run.

All 11 boys attacked and defended well, ensuring that Llangwm never took the lead and that Pembroke finished the game with an 8-6 win.

Coaches Phil Greenwood and Hannah Eynon said: "The hard work the boys are putting in at training is really paying off and we want to thank the mums, dads and grandparents for their help and support."

The Under 8s then took to the pitch and started strong, with this season's new boys, James, Jasper, Jay, Brychan and Zach, all impressing with ball in hand.

Llangwm competed well in all areas of the pitch, running the ball through six tags several times. The Pembroke defence stood strong with enthusiastic tagging led by Jack and Lewis, who both organised their team well.

Pembroke showed their attacking strength with excellent breaks from Big Harry and Iolo, who set up several tries between them.

Two tries came from the strong running of Charlie, who impressed with breaks from his own half, only to be matched by the keen side-step of Taylor, who also bagged a pair for himself.

Further tries were added by the quick-thinking of Jasper and Zach, but the outstanding performance came from captain for the day, Iuean, who topped a great all-round display with a hat-trick of tries.

Llangwm competed right to the final whistle and were unlucky to reach six tags just metres from the line several times.

Their efforts were not enough, however, as Pembroke ran out winners 9-7 at the final whistle, with all players having a good run out on a good day for rugby.

Coaches Nick Shiels and Lee Griffiths commented: "We were impressed with the effort and enthusiasm from the boys. Skill levels are improving with every match, with every single player contributing to the win. We are both really proud of the boys."

Both teams train with the junior section every Tuesday on the back pitch from 6-7 pm, new players very welcome.
