A leaflet celebrating Pembroke's rich history has been produced by the Pembroke and Monkton Local History Society with the help of PLANED.

Linda Asman, chairman of the society, said: "Pembroke has many fascinating aspects to its past; the Sense of Place leaflet gives a flavour of the town's rich history and we hope it will encourage people to go on and explore further.

"Pembroke's origins can be traced back 10,000 years to the Mesolithic hunter gatherers who occupied Wogan's Cavern situated beneath the castle. This guide gives a snapshot of some of the most important things in the history of Pembroke. We are proud of this leaflet and believe it will be useful tool for local people and visitors alike," added Mrs. Asman.

The leaflet, illustrated by local artist George Lewis, was launched by the society earlier this month with an exhibition on Pembroke's history. It can be picked up from the town's Tourist Information Centre, Pembroke Town Hall and Pembroke Castle, and will be available to download from http://www.experiencepembrokeshire.com">www.experiencepembrokeshire.com and http://www.pembrokeandmonktonhistory.org.uk">www.pembrokeandmonktonhistory.org.uk

Funding for the leaflet was secured from PLANED through the Sustainable Communities project, which is part funded through the Rural Development Plan for Wales 2007 - 2013, which is funded by the Welsh Government and the EU.
