Terry Cornish Memorial Trophy

This event to commemorate a past club commodore is also known as the 'Round the Haven Islands' race, since its course takes boats down the Haven and around first Stack Rock fort and then Thorn Island before returning to Hobbs Point. Although we had yet another warm sunny September day, with a moderate wind, the event also clashed with the Ironman Wales, which by various means cut the fleet to only six boats. The easterly wind meant a run down-haven with the tide, a short reach over to round Stack Rock with its ledges on the north side, another run down to Thorn Island, avoiding the in-coming ferry and back through the narrow Thorn Island channel into the main haven again. Once again, the choice of date counted against us, as a long beat against the tide was required to get the fleet back up to Hobbs Point (a more usual westerly wind would have given an initial beat down-tide and an easier run back against the tide...the best laid plans..). Results: 1. Erica (K. McCracken); 2. Selukwe (A. Humble); 3. Swansong (A. Scott). Fittingly, all three of these skippers are past club commodores!

Upcoming events
