Leaders run out of steam

The Cosh Brewery team set a challenging quiz round this week which produced a couple of high scores and some very close contests.

The good news for the sides chasing the leaders, Station A, is that they finally hit the buffers in their own back yard when the Station B completed the double over them and remain the only team to have beaten them to date.

In an extremely close contest when the teams were never more than an answer apart, the B side finally took the lead after round five, but promptly fell behind after two questions in round six and it all came down to the last two answers.

Pressure on and Tom 'stamped' his authority on the game electing to take the question individually and answered 'Mulberry', six points and it's all down to the last question. For the A team to win it now had to be an individual and Mike raised his hand, but could not dig out 'Mexico', so even though the B team did not know either, victory was theirs by five points.

In another tight match at the Charlton, the B team narrowly defeated the visiting Naval Club by two points to remain in the chasing pack.

Another derby match at the Alma saw the B team enhance their chances of catching the leaders with a convincing win with the night's highest score over the A side.

The Charlton A made the journey to St. Govan's Inn and came away winners by nine points whilst the Oak visited the First & Last and returned home with the spoils.

The week's results see the Station A's lead cut to six points and, being the question setters next week, they can expect to see it cut even more. The Alma B remain in second place on the same number of points as the Station B, Charlton B remain fourth, while the Oak and Charlton A share fifth.

Results for the week were: Station A 70 Station B 75; St. Govan's 68 Charlton A 77; Charlton B 71 Naval Club 69; Alma A 64 Alma B 90 and First & Last 48 Oak 89.
