After eight rounds of the Pembroke and Pembroke Dock LVA Quiz League, the leaders, Alma B, have finally lost their unbeaten tag in a tense struggle at the Naval Club.
Behind after round one, they were always playing catch-up in last week's 'user friendly' quiz set by the Alma A and finally succumbed at the final hurdle of the last question in the last round.
This gave the Charlton B team, with a game in hand, the chance to close the gap on the leaders, but they failed miserably, hammered by the Station B team, who take their unbeaten run to five games and were the week's highest scorers.
Also creeping up the league after their disastrous start are the Oak, having won their last four matches, their latest victory at the expense of the Cosh Brewery team in a cliff-hanger by one point.
At the Station, the A team led the visiting St. Govan's side comfortably going into round six, but by scoring three six-pointers, the result came down to the Station's last question, which they answered correctly to run out four-point winners.
In the evening's final match, the second placed Charlton A travelled to Pembroke and maintained their league position, albeit by just four aggregate points, beating the Con Club by 11 points.
Results for the week were: Con Club 62 Charlton A 73; Station A 76 St. Govan's 72; Charlton B 69 Station B 93; Cosh Brewery 78 Oak 79; Naval Club 90 Alma B 85; The First and Last had the bye.
