A 1,000-mile pedal power challenge spearheaded by sportsman hero Gareth Scotcher has raised a whopping £4,600 for charity.
Now in the 12th year of his battle against Motor Neurone Disease, 45-year-old Gareth was joined by a trio of endurance sportsmen for a 12-hour turbo trainer marathon in Tenby’s Tudor Square last month.
He and Ironmen buddies Nicky Rees, Matthew Evans and Steve Rogers aimed to cover a combined distance of 810 miles - the equivalent of riding from Lands End to John O’Groats - during the day, but with extra effort and the help of local triathletes and cyclists who climbed aboard an additional turbo trainer, more than 1,000 miles was clocked up.
As a result, the amazing sum of £4,600 was raised which has been split 50/50 between the Motor Neurone Disease Association and the Paul Sartori Foundation.
Gareth is seen here with fellow cyclist Nicky Rees presenting the cheque to the Paul Sartori Foundation’s fundraising co-ordinator Toni Dorkings, who said: “It was an absolute pleasure to work with Gareth again this year. The support from the people of Tenby is amazing. On behalf of the Paul Sartori Foundation, I would like to thank everyone involved.”
