The Friends of Pembroke Dock Memorial Park are beginning 2021 on a high after further good news towards their ambitious plans for the biggest park in Pembroke Dock.
The registered charity has received a generous donation, enabling them to complete a second phase of the project.
Following extensive fundraising, an order was placed at the end of 2020 for the first of three phases planned for the park, which is in desperate need of new equipment.
Shortly after this order was placed the registered charity were shocked and delighted to discover they had secured funding from Pembrokeshire County Council and the Welsh Government to enable a further phase of the project to be brought to realisation, as well as essential works towards the final phase.
Pembrokeshire County Council’s Play Sufficiency Officer, Damian Golden said: “The commitment and dedication that everyone involved with this project is contributing towards, is testimony to the families of Pembrokeshire that their wish is to have a fully inclusive playpark where everyone can relax, play and generally have a fantastic time, especially after the year we have all just been through.
“Pembrokeshire County Council is very pleased to have been able to work in partnership with TFPMP to assist with what will be an incredible resource for everyone to enjoy.”
Emroach Landscapes are working in conjunction with Wicksteed on the project, with work expected to begin in the park very soon. It is expected to take 2 months to install all the equipment that has been ordered to date.
During this time, for the safety of everyone, the area will be surrounded by security fencing whist the old equipment is removed, the grounds work completed and the new equipment installed.
The park will become the first in Pembrokeshire to have a selection of fantastic disability inclusive equipment.
Josh Beynon, secretary for The Friends of Pembroke Dock Memorial Park said: “We started our plans for the 3 phase project nearly four years ago and we are all extremely excited to see the first 2 phases become a reality, however, we are already looking forward to fundraising for the 3rd and final part of this project.”
Lynette Round, Chairperson for the charity added: “We are incredibly grateful to Pembrokeshire County Council and the Welsh Government for their generous donations towards this project.
“We would also like to pass our thanks onto Sarah Scourfield, Town Clerk for Pembroke Dock, for her continued support for everything we have been aiming for.”
