A warning has been issued to motorists using their vehicles for overnight camping in Tenby, following a proliferation of offending in the seaside resort over the summer season.
Campervans and motorhomes have been reported by members of the public pitching up on the public highways nearby the North Beach, along the Croft and heading up towards the North Cliff area of the town in recent weeks.
“The highway should not be used for overnight camping,” said a spokesperson for Pembrokeshire County Council.
“We can confirm that following contact from a member of the public we carried out enforcement action against vehicles parked on the North Cliff in Tenby. It was identified that one of the vehicles was being used for overnight camping. This vehicle has now moved following our action,” they added.
County councillor Michael Williams, who represents Tenby’s North ward, said that he too had also been given cause to report some of these issues recently.
“What we see is completely unacceptable and I will press the authority to seek a legal remedy. This type of anti social behaviour together with the unacceptable activities in the town centre regarding unauthorised ‘street trading’ will not be tolerated.
“We need to offer a high quality product, and this type of behaviour does not help’ he added.
PCC’s street care manager Marc Owen remarked: “A potential way forward would be to have a parking restriction introduced at this location for specific types of vehicles to restrict overnight parking - we do have this type of restrictions in other locations.”
