The outgoing Mayor of Tenby has thanked the town’s people for all their support during his term in office.
Mayor, Clr. Tony Brown has served a slightly extended period in the role due to the pandemic, but will now hand over the chains of office to mayor-elect Clr. Mrs. Sam Skyrme-Blackhall at Tenby Town Council’s AGM due to be held on June 30, where the annual mayor-making ceremony will take place online.
“As my end of term comes to a close I would like to thank some people for the help for my year in office as mayor, with firstly a massive thanks to my Deputy Mayor, Clr. Mrs. Christine Brown who has been full of advice and support - giving me the oomph so to speak in doing what I thought was right!” commented Clr. Brown.
“Also to the town clerk Andrew and assistant clerk Sharon for keeping me in the right direction with words of wisdom - two very knowledgable people who without I could not have managed.
“I’d also like to give my most humble of thanks to the mace bearers John and Denise for their support and knowledge, and town crier Jim for making the events fun with his dancing!”
Clr. Brown went onto thank local charitable organisations such as Tenby Round Table, the Rotary Club, and Lions for yet again all the events they hosted and supported throughout the year.
“Well done to Tenby’s firefighters on their milestone 100 year anniversary carnival which was great to be a part of, and also the money they raise for charities,” he continued.
“The emergency services in Tenby from the RNLI lifeboat crew to the cliff rescue and coastguard teams, and the ambulance and police, all deserve a mention for serving the town to keep it safe and a place that we can live the way we do - a big thank you to these men and women.
“I’ve had a fantastic year representing our great town and trying to do my best for the towns folk - I know some people might not have agreed with some things I’ve said - but I’m hoping the majority know that I’ve only done what I think is right for our town.
“I hope for the future of Tenby next year that all the events that haven’t happened this year are bigger and better than previous years from Carten to Ironman, along with the carnivals and fairgrounds. Pulling together has been the joy of seeing the best of Tenby, and as I prepare to hand over to the next mayor, I wish Clr. Mrs Skyrme-Blackhall all the best.
“As I pass the mayoral role over and become a councillor again, my promise to all that I met this year, like last, is if you need a hand with your charities or events, myself, like all my fellow councillors are always on hand to help in anyway we can if possible.
“My biggest thanks go to one section above all - the people of Tenby - thank you, for being you! Who knows I might do it again one day!” added Clr. Brown.
