Following complaints not only from residents, but also visitors, Amroth Community Council have taken steps to reduce the amount of dog fouling on the beaches in the village.
The community council, working with local businesses, have recently erected dispensers for dog waste bags at three significant access points to the beach. The dispensers, are now in place at New Inn, the slipway and by the public conveniences, fully stocked with bags funded by local businesses.
Clr. Stephen Phillips, chair of Amroth Community Council, said: “We take great pride in our beach at Amroth, working with agencies and organisations in keeping it clean. We are also very proud of the fact that we were recognised as having the most dog friendly beach in Pembrokeshire last year. Of concern lately, though, is the behaviour and attitude of dog walkers on the beach in relation to their dogs fouling.”
It was to ensure that all users of the beaches can gain maximum pleasure from them, that the council took action to deal with the fouling issue with the provision of the dispensers. In doing so, they would ask that the dispensers are used, with waste being properly disposed of by dog owners.”
The aim of the community council is that whether living there or visiting, Amroth should be a pleasant experience for all, thereby benefitting local enterprises and encouraging appreciation of the beautiful area.
