Pembroke Dock Community School has recently had their Eco-Schools Platinum 4th Green Flag Award renewed for the second time. They were one of 10 schools in Wales to join the elite group of 'Permanent Eco-Schools' in Wales in 2008.

The Eco committee had to present their action plan and an update on the extensive eco activities undertaken by the pupils within the school and community. Pupils regularly recycle: collecting plastics, paper, fruit waste for composting, spectacles for third world countries, mobile phones for Wales Ambulance, ink cartridges and clothing. They pick litter in the community and when visiting local beaches.

Members of the school Eco Committee travelled twice last year to Builth Wells to join the newly-formed National Eco Committee.

School gains reassessment of top Healthy Schools 'National Quality Award'

Pembroke Dock Community School is very proud to have recently received reassessment of the Welsh Network for Healthy Schools 'National Quality Award'. The NQA plaque will now display a small plate stating, 'Standard maintained and Continuous Improvement Demonstrated.'

Pembroke Dock Community School was the first primary school in Wales to have gained this prestigious award two years ago and is now the first school in Wales to have received reassessment.

The school began their work with Healthy Schools in 1999 and has continued to work tirelessly, for 11 years, to improve the health of their pupils, community links and their environment.

The benefits to the pupils, staff and community over many years, by progressing steadily through the phases of Healthy Schools, has had a significant impact on the whole school community. There are many ways in which pupils have improved their health, environment and become better global citizens.

The seven areas of focus are Mental Health and Well-being, Personal Development and Relationships, Food and Fitness, Substance Use and Misuse, Safety, Hygiene and Environment.

Pupils are very aware that they need to ensure they should make the right choices in their lives; they are becoming independent learners who relish challenge and recognise that their voices are heard and valued.
